The Carmel High School Marching Band was the state ISSMA champion for the second consecutive year in Class A. The band performed original music entitled "Metal", composed by Carmel director's Richard Saucedo & Mike McIntosh.

At the 2002 UIL Texas State Marching Band Championship, the Duncanville High School Marching Band took home their third 5A State Championship title since 1988. Duncanville's 2002 show included "The Music of Verdi's Requiem & Nessun Dorma".
